Paul Newell Sails is a small company making bespoke sails for yachts and dinghies and imaginative useful designs in recycled and new sailcloth.

We are responsible for all the designs and patterns and we make everything ourselves in our sail loft overlooking the harbour in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.

Paul has been a sailmaker since 1971 when he started his apprenticeship with Ratsey and Lapthorn in Cowes. He was brought up in Seaview with his family who were boat builders.

He has sailed all his life and in 1977 he completed the Whitbread Round the World Race on Condor as sailmaker with skipper Sir Robin Knox Johnson.

With the skills acquired over 40 years in the sailmaking trade, he and his wife Vanessa, a designer, have launched a new exciting range of unique, eco-friendly recycled sailcloth products with a nautical feel to them. They include stylish and practical kit bags and duffle bags, imaginative colourful wash bags, children's bags, personalised bags, cushions and other items for use on the water, at the beach and in the home.
We also design and make personalised and bespoke products.

We care about the environment and try to use eco-friendly recycled sailcloth, or, when unavailable we use new excellent quality sailcloth.

Our bags we make to last and the ends of the bags are all triple stitched in, we add large durable chunky coloured zipping, webbing handles that go right around the bag, an extra layer of canvas to the base, internal pockets and U.V. resistant sailmakers thread. Decoration is carefully stitched with traditional sailmakers zig zag stitch.
All of the component parts of these great hard wearing bags and products use the same webbing, eyelets, cord, rope, zips, numbers and letters that are used in the manufacture of the sails and covers that Paul makes in his loft.

If you have something special in mind that you would like us to make for you, please get in touch. We have made so many different type of bags for a wide variety of applications over the years that we're sure we can make something special for you too.

If you have any queries or questions please do contact us, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Our new range of sailing kit bags, wash bags and sailcloth products can be bought at an exciting new gallery in Cowes, called Green Buoy Arts, run by two very talented entrepreneurs, who are promoting Island artists and makers.

Bags can also be seen and bought at Made on the Isle of Wight and the Beach Hut, Yarmouth.
We also sell products on the website www.notonthehighstreet.com.

If you have any old sails that you have no use for, we would be delighted to have first refusal and we can arrange to collect them.
