Newell Sails

The sails are made in the sail loft in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, Great Britain.

We only choose the best cloth for the job. The corner patches are over sized so that the loads are well distributed into the sail thereby reducing stretch.

Each sail is cut according to what the owner wants to do with it, the class of boat and the anticipated usage. For example a suit of sails we made for a 24ft steel cutter did 3 trans-Atlantic round trips before their first service.

Sails made in the 90's for the Norfolk Broads boats that sail out of Ludham are only now coming to the end of their very hard lives.

A mainsail made in 1992 won it's class and group in the 2009 annual Round the Island Race and it's class in Cowes Week 1997. This is a sail that has also been raced in upward of 50kts during the 1996 Cowes week.

So, whatever it is we and you do to these sails, they do last.

Classes of boat that we have made for include Ankh 24, 32 & 40, the Westerly range including 33, 36, Centaur, Griffon, Merlin, Storm, Pentland & Windrush, Bavaria 32, 34, 36 & 44, First 22 & 42, Swan 38, Moody 28, 31 & 36, Hood 52, Dragon, Etchells, 5.5 meter, X Boats, Mini Ton, 1/4 Ton, 1/2 Ton & 3/4 Ton, Illusion, Optimist, Wayfarer, 505, Tornado and Scow to name but a few.
We make the complete range of sails for these boats too. From mainsails to trysails, No 1 light genoa's to storm jibs and floater spinnakers to heavy reachers.

We also make square sails and gaff sails, topsails and flying jibs in tan, cream or white cloth for the more traditional and classic yachts.

The Redwing class, here at Bembridge, is suited almost exclusively with our sails.

So if any of the above boats are yours and you need a new sail to take you away for the week end, round the cans racing or across the Atlantic let us know and we can make something for you that will give long and trouble free service where ever you want to go, in whatever conditions turn up.
